Careers, internships and work experience

We have a standing offer of conversations, work experience and internships that may suit what you need if you’re thinking about a career in digital or user research.

Digital has given all of the Lagom team the opportunity to earn a good living by doing meaningful and interesting work. 

We want to use our experience to help others to do this too, in particular people who need a bit of a leg up, or who may otherwise be at a disadvantage.

Separately, we also occasionally advertise permanent positions working with us at Lagom.

What we can offer

We can provide opportunities for first-hand work experiences and learning. And we can give you access to materials and other people.

And if we ask you to do any work for us, we’ll pay you to do it.

The opportunities we offer

Chat over a cup of coffee 

A 30 minute unstructured chat with one of the Lagom team, in person or over video call. For anyone interested in our work, and a career in digital and user research. 

We will listen, ask and answer questions based on our experience of working in the digital sector and at Lagom.

Talk or presentation in a school or further education college 

A 30-60 minute interactive group session led by a Lagom team member, to talk about careers in the digital sector, and the types of work we do at Lagom.

Arranged directly with teachers and careers advisors. For more information, or to discuss, please get in touch.

NB: We can only offer this virtually during current Covid-19 restrictions.

A mentor 

Regular conversations with a Lagom team member. For people already working in user research or a related field, and interested in developing their career.

We offer this to people we have already established a relationship with (possibly through one the other activities described on this page).

Student projects critique

A session with a college or university to critique the approach and outputs of student projects, arranged via course leaders.

Work experience: Digital user researcher 

Structured two week work experience, for someone interested in digital user research, wanting to better understand it. 

This will include the opportunity to learn about the Lagom methods and techniques for ResearchOps, user research and discovery projects.

We will also provide the opportunity to participate in some user research activities, either live or pre-recorded.

Graduate digital user researcher internship

Note: Slots for Easter 2021 internships are now fully booked.

A full time, 3 week Easter internship for someone with demonstrable relevant education or training.

This would suit someone who has recently graduated (or is about to graduate) from relevant higher education.

You will operate as a junior digital researcher, carrying out user research activities (with support) on defined research or discovery projects.

We will provide a living wage salary and cover any expenses.

Non-graduate digital user researcher internship

A short (~1 month) internship for someone who has come to user research via an alternative education or training route.

This would suit someone without higher education qualifications, but with demonstrable interest in the field of digital user research. 

You will operate as a junior digital researcher, carrying out user research activities (with support) on defined research or discovery projects.

We will provide a living wage salary and cover any expenses.

Extended digital user researcher internship

An extended internship, for someone who has already completed one of the Lagom internships.

Arranged by exception. We will pay an agreed salary to anyone who extends an internship.
